Joseph's Feet in Fetters - Psalms 105:18

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “called for a famine upon the land: he broke the whole staff of bread. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse eighteen of Psalms the Psalmist shared about Joseph, “whose feet they hurt with fetters” where we read,

Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:

The verse begins, Whose feet they hurt with fetters: The Psalmist began with the words, “whose feet they hurt” or “whose, Joseph's, physical feet they, the people who bought Joseph, afflicted, oppressed, humbled and depressed” “with fetters” which means “by the use of braided or entwined bonds”. The Psalmist said the people who bought Joseph as a slave afflicted and oppressed him with braided bonds.

The verse goes on to say,he was laid in iron: The Psalmist continued with the words, “he was laid” or “he, Joseph, was led, carried and brought” “in iron” which means “within harsh and strong utensils or implements made with iron”. The Psalmist shared how Joseph was brought and carried into the land of Egypt in strong implements made with iron.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Joseph was brought into the land of Egypt with iron chains and implements. Joseph was carried in like a slave, and this was all part of God's plan of salvation and rescue for the people of Israel. Sometimes we do not understand the plans of God, and He often does things in an unusual way. (See Genesis 39:20) God allowed His Son Jesus to be bound, beaten, cursed and crucified for the sins of all mankind, and although to some it appeared that Jesus' life was lost, it was only because He desired to save every person who yields their life to Him. God loves us, and when it seems like His plan is not working in a way that is good for us, He always has His good purposes and plans in mind. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their eternal plan to save and rescue us for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “until the time that his word came”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
