Forgetting God's Works - Psalms 106:13

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said concerning the people of Israel that Jehovah God, “rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. Then believed they his words; they sang his praise”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “soon forgot his works” where we read,

They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel:

The verse begins, They soon forgot his works; The Psalmist began with the words, “they soon forgot” or “they, the people of Israel, hastily, quickly and impetuously ignored, ceased to care and mislaid from their memory and attention” “his works” which means “his, Jehovah God's, acts, deeds, labors and undertakings”. The Psalmist recalled how the people of Israel quickly ignored and ceased to care about Jehovah God's acts and deeds.

The verse continues, they waited not for his counsel: The Psalmist added the words, “they waited not” or “they, the people of Israel, did not loiter or tarry” “for his counsel” which means “for his, Jehovah God's, advice, purpose and plan”. The Psalmist shared how the people of Israel did not tarry or give time to receive Jehovah God's advice or purpose. (See Exodus 15:17,24: 16:2; 17:7)

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said the people of Israel were only singing for a short time before they did not remember what Jehovah God did for them. They became impetuous and acted upon their own thinking rather than tarrying for the purposes of God. This became their downfall, and this should cause us to pay careful attention not to “forget” how He has worked on our behalf. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and set us in a position to remember Him, His powerful works and His ability to advise us according to His Divine purposes and will.

Next time Psalmist says the people of Israel, “lusted exceedingly in the wilderness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
