In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said, “The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse thirty-two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “He looked on the earth, and it trembles” where we read,
He looked on the earth, and it trembled: he touched the hills, and they smoke.
The verse begins, “He looked on the earth, and it trembled:” The Psalmist began with the words, “He looked on the earth” or “He, Jehovah God, regarded, paid attention to, considered and beheld the land, ground, country, territory, region and world”, “and it trembled” which means “and it, the world, quaked, shuddered and shook violently”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God regarded and paid attention to the world and it quaked and shook violently.
The verse continues, “he touched the hills, and they smoke.” The Psalmist added the words, “he touched the hills” or “he, Jehovah God, reached and extended his hand upon the risings above the plain”, “and they smoke” which means “and they, the risings above the plain, put forth fumes or vapors”. The Psalmist shared how the risings above the plain put forth fumes and vapors when Jehovah God extended His hand toward them.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist mentioned when Jehovah God beholds the world, it causes the world to shake and shudder. God reached out His hand to “touch” the risings above the plain and they began to fume. God's power is demonstrated over and over again. This same power from Jehovah God was extended to mankind when He sent His So Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. God's power made a way for people to be saved , and when we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and demonstrate His power in His creation as we learn more and more about Him and what He has done for us.
Next time the Psalmist says, “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
