Egypt Glad When Israel Departed - Psalms 105:38

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God delivered the people of Israel from Egypt, and, “He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse thirty-eight of Psalms the Psalmist shared how, “Egypt was glad when they departed” where we read,

Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.

The verse begins, Egypt was glad when they departed: The Psalmist began with the words, “Egypt was glad” or “Egypt whose name means land of the copts and was a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine, and through which the Nile flows existed as exulted, rejoicing and gleeful” “when they departed” which means “at the time and moment they, the people of Israel, went forward, proceeded and went away”. The Psalmist said the people in “Egypt” were merry when the people of Israel left their country.

The verse goes on to say,for the fear of them fell upon them. The Psalmist continued with the words, “for the fear of them” or “because, since and on account that the terror and dread of the people of Israel” “fell upon them” which means “was cast, settled and lie on them, the people of Egypt”. The Psalmist said the terror and dread of the people of Israel settled on the people of “Egypt”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist gave the reason the people of “Egypt” were merry when Israel left them. Pharaoh finally allowed the people of Israel to leave “Egypt” after the tenth plague which took the lives of all of their firstborn males. The people of “Egypt” were afraid of Israel, and they wanted them to go away. God was on Israel's side, and He desires to favor every person who will surrender their lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us within His grace for this life and the life to come.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God gave the people of Israel, “a cloud for covering; and fire to give light”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
