When Few in Number - Psalms 105:12

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac, and confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant. Saying, Unto you will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God recalled, “when they were but a few men in number” where we read,

When they were but a few men in number; yes, very few, and strangers in it.

The verse begins, When they were but a few men in number; The Psalmist began with the words, “when they were but a few men” or “at the time and moment they, the nation of Israel, existed with only a small amount of people both male and female” “in number” which means “in tale, count and relation”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God gave the nation of Israel the “land of Canaan” at the time there was only a small number of them.

The verse goes on to sayyes, very few, and strangers in it. The Psalmist continued with the words, “yes, very few” or “even so and indeed, a little, small and tiny amount of people”, “and strangers in it” which means “and foreigners and temporary dwellers within the land of Canaan”. The Psalmist confirmed that there was only a small number of people from Israel and some temporary dwellers within the “land of Canaan” when they took possession of it.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said there was only a small number of Israelites and some foreigners the “land of Canaan” when they first took possession of it. In other words, their beginning was small. However, they trusted in Jehovah God, and He multiplied them in number. God's desire is to have a personal, intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to join His people for whom He has prepared an eternal inheritance in Heaven where we shall live forever and ever with Him.

Next time the Psalmist shares how this happened, “when they went from one nation to another”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
