In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said concerning the people of Israel who were wandering in the wilderness, “They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped the molten image. Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eats grass”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse twenty-one of Psalms the Psalmist shared how the people of Israel, “forgot God their savior” where we read,
They forgot God their savior, which had done great things in Egypt;
The verse begins, “They forgot God their savior, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “they forgot God” or “they, the people of Israel, did not remember, call to mind or recall the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “their savior” which means “their, the people of Israel's, deliverer, rescuer and liberator”. The Psalmist recalled how the people of Israel did not remember the Divine judge Jehovah God who was their rescuer and deliverer.
The verse continues, “... which had done great things in Egypt;” The Psalmist added the words, “which had done great things” or “who performed and produced important, distinguished and noble acts and deeds” “in Egypt” which means “within the country of Egypt whose name means land of the copts and was a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine, and through which the Nile flows”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel did not remember the important and distinguished acts that Jehovah God produced while they lived as slaves in “Egypt”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist mentioned the way the people of Israel did not remember Jehovah God as their “deliverer” from the land of Egypt, and they did not call to mind the mighty acts and deeds He performed while they remained as slaves there. They “forgot” how He led them out of Egypt with silver and gold, and did not recall how He saved them through the Red sea. God works on our behalf constantly, and it seems that it is so easy to “forget” what He has done. Still, He loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. This greatest act of God is so that we may obtain forgiveness and eternal life with Him when we surrender our lives to Him, and lest we ever be among those who “forget” what God has done for us, let us always remember the cross where our salvation and deliverance from sin was secured.
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God did, “wondrous works in the land of Ham”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
