God's Covenant with Abraham - Psalms 105:9

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist shared about God's, “covenant he made with Abraham” where we read,

Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;

The verse begins, Which covenant he made with Abraham, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “which covenant” or “this was the alliance, pledge, agreement, confederacy and league” “he made with Abraham” which means “he, Jehovah God, formed and fashioned with Abraham whose name means father of a multitude and was the friend of God and founder of Hebrew nation via God's elective covenant”. The Psalmist said the “covenant” Jehovah God formed was given to his servant “Abraham”.

The verse continues, “... and his oath unto Isaac; The Psalmist added the words, “and his oath” or “and his, Jehovah God's, attesting and swearing” “unto Isaac” which means “toward Isaac whose name means he laughs and was son of Abraham by Sarah his wife and father of Jacob and Esau”. The Psalmist referred to Jehovah God's sworn agreement with “Isaac” who was “Abraham's” son.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God gave “Abraham” His pledge, and He continued it with “Abraham's” son “Isaac” afterward. God wanted all generations to know Him personally, and because He extended His “oath” or “promise” to them, they could be in an intimate relationship with Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to fulfill His promise of salvation, and this came about when Jesus died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us into fellowship with Him and His promise for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “confirmed the same unto Jacob”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
