Locusts and Caterpillars - Psalms 105:34

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and broke the trees of their coasts”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse thirty-four of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars” where we read,

He spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, and that without number,

The verse begins, He spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “He spoke” or “He, Jehovah God, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “and the locusts came” which means “and the grasshoppers or flying locust swarm were enumerated, entered and attacked”, “and caterpillars” or “and young locust or devouring caterpillars”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God gave the word and flying grasshoppers and devouring caterpillars entered the land of Egypt.

The verse goes on to say,... and that without number.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “ and that” or “and the flying grasshoppers and devouring caterpillars entered Egypt” “without number” which means “in no way or manner to count”. The Psalmist said the young locust or devouring caterpillars came into Egypt in such great abundance that there was no way to count them all.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared another plague that came upon the nation of Egypt. God said the word, and flying grasshoppers and devouring caterpillars came into their land. Time after time God gave the people of Egypt, particularly Pharaoh, the opportunity to obey Him and allow His people Israel to be set free, but Pharaoh refused. Therefore, plagues such as these devouring insects came upon them. God's desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with every person, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from the eternal consequences for disobedience and rejection of Him.

Next time the Psalmist shares how the locusts and caterpillars, “did eat up all the herbs in their land”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
