The Moon Appointed for Seasons - Psalms 104:19

In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said, “the high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse nineteen of Psalms the Psalmist said “he appointed the moon for seasons” where we read,

He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knows his going down.

The verse begins, He appointed the moon for seasons:” The Psalmist began with the words, “He appointed the moon” or “He, Jehovah God, fashioned, made and produced the moon in the night sky” “for seasons” which means “toward and in the direction of appointed times, set feasts, places and meetings”. The Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God made the “moon” in the night sky to direct the set feasts and meetings of people.

The verse goes on to say,the sun knows his going down.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “the sun knows” or “the sun in the sky is aware, perceives, distinguishes and discerns” “his going down” which means “his, the sun's, descending sunset in the westward direction”. The Psalmist shared about the “sun” in the sky knowing the time when it was to descend toward the sunset of the day.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared about the celestial bodies known as the “moon” and “sun” as he thought about Jehovah God being responsible for “seasons” and “sunsets”. In other words, God is a God of order, and He employed the use of the “moon and sun” to make provision for mankind. God knows our needs both physically and spiritually, and because He desires to live with us forever, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sin in our lives which separated us from a personal relationship with Him. When Jesus died, He bore our sins, and as we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to know His created celestial bodies such as the “moon and sun” were also made for the benefit of mankind.

Next time the Psalmist says of Jehovah God, “you make darkness, and it is night”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
