In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God delivered the people of Israel from Egypt, and He, “opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse forty-two of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “remembered his holy promise, and Abraham” where we read,
For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.
The verse begins, “For he remembered his holy promise, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “for He remembered” or “because, since and on account that He, Jehovah God, recalled and brought to mind” “his holy promise” which means “his, Jehovah God's, sacred, set apart and separate speech, utterance and spoken word”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God called to mind His sacred and set apart utterance and spoken word.
The verse continues, “... and Abraham his servant.” The Psalmist added the words, “and Abraham” or “and Abraham whose name means father of a multitude and was friend of God and founder of Hebrew nation via God's elective covenant” “his servant” which means “his, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper”. The Psalmist referred to how Jehovah God also called to mind “Abraham” who was His bondman and worshiper.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God called to mind His “sacred spoken word” and “Abraham” as the reason He cared for the people of Israel in the wilderness. God “promised “Abraham” that He would provide and care for his descendants, and while Israel traveled through the wilderness, He gave them protection and provision. (See Genesis 13:14-17) God loves Israel, and He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could have a personal relationship with Him. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be our provision and protection in this life and the next as we live in Heaven with Him.
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “brought forth his people with joy”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
