God Gave Jacob the Land of Canaan - Psalms 105:11

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac, and confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse eleven of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God said, “unto you will I give the land of Canaan” where we read,

Saying, Unto you will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:

The verse begins, Saying, Unto you will I give the land of Canaan, ... The Psalmist began with the word, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “unto you will I give the land” which means “to you, Jacob or Israel, shall I, Jehovah God, set, bestow, grant, permit, ascribe, devote, consecrate and dedicate the ground, country, territory, district and region” “of Canaan” or “belonging to Canaan whose name means lowland and the land west of the Jordan peopled by the descendants of Canaan and subsequently conquered by the Israelites under Joshua”. The Psalmist referred to how Jehovah God promised Israel that He would grant and bestow upon the nation of Israel the “land of Canaan”.

The verse continues, “... the lot of your inheritance: The Psalmist added the words, “the lot” or “the cord, territory, band, company and measured portion” “of your inheritance” which means “pertaining to your, Israel's, possession, property, heritage and share”. The Psalmist referred to how Jehovah God gave the country of Israel the possession of “Canaan” as their property and possession.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God promised the people of Israel the “land of Canaan”, and that was to be their “inheritance”. God loves the people of Israel, and He loves every nation through them. (See Genesis 18:18, 22:18, 26:4; Psalm 72:17; Malachi 3:12) He chose Israel to be the nation through whom His Messiah Son Jesus would come to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we submit to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be a part of His “inheritance” for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God recalls, “when they were but a few men in number”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
