In Psalms one hundred nine David said, “My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh fails of fatness”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse twenty-five of Psalms David said, “I became a reproach unto them” where we read,
I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shook their heads.
The verse begins, “I became also a reproach unto them:” David began with the words, “I became also a reproach” or “I, David, happened, fell out and came to pass even so and indeed as a scorn, taunting, shame and disgrace” “unto them” which means “to them, the people who were David's adversaries”. David said he fell out as a shame and disgrace to his adversaries.
The verse continues, “when they looked upon me they shook their heads.” David added the words, “when they looked upon me” or “at the time and moment they, the adversaries of David, beheld, considered, perceived and took heed to me, David” “they shook their heads” which means “they, David's adversaries, quivered, tottered, reeled, staggered and waved their physical heads”. David said the adversaries of David waved and wagged their physical heads back and forth at the time they beheld him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David became a shame and disgrace before his adversaries, and at the time they beheld him, David's foes waved their heads back and forth in front of Him in a taunting manner. This should remind us of the way people treated Jesus as He hung on the cross to die for the sins of all mankind. (See Matthew 27:39-43) God's offer to everyone is that if they will believe and trust in Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and accompanied by the Holy Spirit of God regardless of how people “reproach” them, look upon them and wag their heads to taunt them in their faith.
Next time David says, “Help me, O LORD my God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
