Loving Cursing - Psalms 109:17

In Psalms one hundred nine David said of his adversary, “Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse seventeen of Psalms David said, “he loved cursing, so let it come unto him” where we read,

As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

The verse begins, “As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: David began with the words, “as he loved cursing” or “even in likeness and similar to the way he, David's enemy, had an appetite and affection toward execration and vilification”, “so let it come unto him” which means “in the same manner allow and permit it, the execration and vilification, enter in and be attained by him, David's enemy”. David wanted Jehovah God to allow his adversary to receive the same execration and vilification for which his adversary had affection.

The verse goes on to say, “as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.” David continued with the words, “as he delighted” or “in the same manner and likeness that he, David's enemy, took pleasure and favor” “not in blessing” which means “in no way and not at all in praise, prosperity and benediction”, “so let it be far from him” or “in the same manner allow and permit it, the blessing, exist as distant, removed and put away apart from him, David's enemy”. David said his enemy did not take pleasure in praise and prosperity, so Jehovah God should keep praise and prosperity from him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how David wanted the behavior of his adversary to be reciprocated to him by Jehovah God. David's enemy enjoyed vilifying others, so David wanted Jehovah God to bring trouble upon him. David's enemy took no pleasure in praising and bringing prosperity to others, so David wanted Jehovah God to keep praise and prosperity from him. David turned retribution and judgment of his enemy over to Jehovah God, and because God is so merciful, He allows a period of time for a person to alter their ways. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that He will indeed reciprocate people with their own errors unless they submit themselves to Him.

Next time David says, “he clothed himself with cursing”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
