The Beginning of Wisdom - Psalms 111:10

In Psalms one hundred eleven the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “sent redemption unto his people: he has commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name”, and in chapter one hundred eleven and verse ten of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” where we read,

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom:

a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endures for ever.

The verse begins, The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom:” The Psalmist began with the words, “the fear of the LORD” or “the terror, awe, respect, reverence and piety belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “is the beginning” which means “exists as the first, best, choice and principal order” “of wisdom” or “pertaining to skill, shrewdness, prudence and whit”. The Psalmist said revering Jehovah God is the choice and principal order of shrewdness and prudence.

The verse continues, “a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endures for ever.” The Psalmist added the words, “a good understanding” or “a pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable insight, good sense, cunning and craft” “have all they” which means “possess and own each, every, the whole and everyone of the people” “that do his commandments” or “who perform, produce, fashion and accomplish his, Jehovah God's, ordinances, laws, rules and constitution”: “his praise” which means “his, Jehovah God's, adoration, thanksgiving and laudation” “endures for ever” or “lasts, remains and stays for long duration, perpetually, everlasting and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist said people who perform Jehovah God's ordinances and laws have insight and good sense toward Him because His adoration and laudation remains eternally.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how the principal order for being wise is to revere Jehovah God. When we obey His laws, we gain insight into His way of living, and we will give Him praise eternally for it. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us in line with His commands as He provides an opportunity to give Him “praise” forever and ever.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “Blessed is the man that fears the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
