Mountains Skipping Like Rams - Psalms 114:4

In Psalms one hundred fourteen the Psalmist referred to, “when Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language. Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back”, and in chapter one hundred fourteen and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the mountains skipped like rams” where we read,

The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

The verse begins, The mountains skipped like rams, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “the mountains” which means “the risings above the plains, hills and ranges of mountainous places” “skipped like rams” or “danced, leaped and sprung about similar to and in likeness to ram animals similar to strong supports, posts or chief pilasters”. The Psalmist said the “mountain ranges” danced and leaped similar to the “ram”.

The verse continues, “... and the little hills like lambs.” The Psalmist added the words, “and the little hills” or “and the tiny and small risings above the plain” “like lambs” or “similar and in likeness to small cattle known as sheep”. The Psalmist said the tiny risings above the plains were also “skipping” like the “lambs”.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how the “mountains and hills” also responded to Jehovah God's actions with “Judah and Israel”. The entire world responds to Jehovah God when He takes action with His people Israel. God loves all people, and when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to to enjoy the response of the earth to His wonderful acts and deeds to the people He loves.

Next time the Psalmist asks, “What ailed you, O you sea?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
