Set a Wicked Man Over Him - Psalms 109:6

In Psalms one hundred nine David said speaking of his enemies, “For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse six of Psalms David said, “set you a wicked man over him” where we read,

Set you a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

The verse begins, Set you a wicked man over him: David began with the words, “set you a wicked man” or “appoint, reckon and cause a criminal, guilty of crime and hostile to God person whether male or female” “over him” which means “above and beyond him, the person who opposed David”. David wanted Jehovah God to appoint a person who was hostile to Him over the people who opposed him.

The verse continues, “and let Satan stand at his right hand.” David added the words, “and let Satan” or “and appoint, reckon and cause Satan whose name means adversary, one who withstands and the arch-enemy of good” “stand at his right hand” which means “remain, continue, endure and persist at his, the enemy of David's, right hand of power, might, authority and ability”. David wanted Jehovah God to allow “Satan” himself to continue at his hating foe's the right hand of power, might and ability.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we learn how David desired that an “evil and criminal” person to be appointed to his enemy, and he wanted “Satan” himself to be at the power and might of him. We can tell David did not care for this foe. The idea was that David wanted Jehovah God to cause his enemy to have these opposing ones sent. God will take vengeance even as it is written, “vengeance is mine, says the LORD”. (See Isaiah 63:4 and Romans 12:19) God, however, wants everyone to be saved, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and avenge His adversaries and ours according to His perfect plan and will.

Next time David says, “when he shall be judged, let him be condemned”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
