Making the Hungry Dwell - Psalms 107:36

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “turns rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground. A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. He turns the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse thirty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “makes the hungry to dwell” where we read,

And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;

The verse begins, And there he makes the hungry to dwell, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “and there he makes” or “and within the wilderness turned into standing water and the dry ground turned into watersprings, he, Jehovah God, causes, sets and establishes” “the hungry to dwell” which means “people who desire food and nourishment to live, abide and inhabit”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God causes people who desire nourishment and food to live within the places prepared with standing water and watersprings.

The verse continues, “... that they may prepare a city for habitation;” The Psalmist added the words, “that they may prepare” or “that they, the people who are hungry, might make ready, establish and fix in place” “a city for habitation” which means “a town, place of waking and guarded encampment for a dwelling place, assembly and company”. The Psalmist said the people who are hungry would be able to establish a dwelling place within the location prepared by Jehovah God.

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God causes people to live within the places He prepared for them. They would come to the villages and towns and inherit that which He made for them. God altered the countryside for people to dwell within, and He is preparing a place for those who believe in His Son Jesus today. (See John 14:1-4) God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continue to “prepare” our dwelling that we may live with Him forever.

Next time the Psalmist says, “sow the fields and plant vineyards”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
