Contempt Upon Princes - Psalms 107:40

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse forty of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “pours contempt upon princes” where we read,

He pours contempt upon princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

The verse begins, He pours contempt upon princes, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “he pours contempt” or “He, Jehovah God, gushes out, sheds and spills disrespect as in disdain and shame” “upon princes” which means “on magnanimous grandees, tyrants and nobles”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God sheds disrespect and disregard toward magnanimous rulers or nobles.

The verse continues, “... and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.” The Psalmist added the words, “and causes them to wander” or “and makes them, the magnanimous nobles, to err, go astray and stagger like a drunkard” “in the wilderness” which means “within the barren and desert place”, “where there is no way” or “in which location there exists not a single path, roadway, manner or direction”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God makes the magnanimous nobles to stagger in the desert place like a drunken man because there exists no manner of direction there.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through the Psalmist how the rulers were not exempt from the oversight and judgment of Jehovah God. God sheds forth His disregard for those who are magnanimous rulers and makes them stagger through the desert place where there exists no true direction. Many people follow this path. They go from one venture to another, one seeking to another and are continually in a staggering state. God desires a different way for us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us by His Holy Spirit into all truth so we never have to “wander in the wilderness” again.

Next time the Psalmist says Jehovah God, “sets the poor on high from affliction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
