In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “turns rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground. A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. He turns the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse thirty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “sow the fields, and plant vineyards” where we read,
And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
The verse begins, “And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “and sow the fields” or “and scatter, plant or disseminate seed for the cultivated land or ground”, “and plant vineyards” which means “and fashion, fix and establish fruit bearing vines”. The Psalmist instructed the people to scatter seed in the land and to fix and establish fruit bearing vines within the land as well.
The verse goes on to say, “... which may yield fruits of increase.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “which may yield fruits” or “that will fashion, accomplish, make and produce fruitful boughs” “of increase” which means “pertaining to crops, gain and abundance”. The Psalmist said the result of planting seeds and fruit bearing vines in the fields will be an abundance of crops.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist instructed the people to sow their seed and plant their vineyards in the land which God provided for them. The result would be a great increase in crops within their country. Today, this is fulfilled as Israel is a great vegetable and fruit bearing country. God loves Israel, and they were meant to be the country through whom the entire world would be blessed. (See Genesis 18:18; 28:18; Galatians 3:8) God chose Israel to be the people through whom His Son Jesus would come into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring a great abundance of fruit in our lives.
Next time the Psalmist says Jehovah God, “blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
