Not Remembering Mercy - Psalms 109:16

In Psalms one hundred nine David said concerning his enemy, “Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse sixteen of Psalms David said his adversary, “remembered not to show mercy” where we read,

Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man,

that he might even slay the broken in heart.

The verse begins, “Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, ... David began with the words, “because that he remembered not” or “since and on account that he, David's enemy, in no way called to mind, recalled and brought to remembrance” “to show mercy” which means “to fashion, accomplish and produce goodness, kindness and faithfulness”. “but persecuted” or “but instead put to flight, harassed and pursued ardently” “the poor and needy man” which means “the afflicted, humble and wretched person whether male or female who is oppressed, abused and destitute”. David said the reason Jehovah God should cut of the memory of his enemy was because he forgot to produce goodness and kindness, and instead afflicted people who were oppressed and abused.

The verse continues, “... that he might even slay the broken in heart.” David added the words, “that he might even slay” or “so he, David's enemy, could have one executed, killed or put to death” “the broken in heart” which means “the sad, disheartened, cowed and grieved”. David said his adversary persecuted the “poor and needy” to such a degree that they wanted people who were sad and grieved to be killed and put to death.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David continued to share the evil traits of his hating foes. They forgot to be kind and good to others, and they afflicted people who were oppressed and abused. They were so vicious that they desired to kill and destroy those who were grieved and brokenhearted. David wanted these enemies to be eliminated, and he appealed to Jehovah God to take care of them. God was certain to avenge David of his adversaries, and He will do the same for people who refuse and reject His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. God sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us how He gives assistance to those who are poor, needy and brokenhearted.

Next time David says, “he loved cursing, so let it come unto him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
