In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist speaking of the people of Israel said Jehovah God, “blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffers not their cattle to decrease”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse thirty-nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow” where we read,
Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
The verse begins, “Again, they are minished and brought low ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “again, they are minished” or “and yet another time, they, the people who lived and planted in the land prepared by Jehovah God, exist as small, few, lessened and ineffective” “and brought low” which means “and humbled, crouched, prostrated and weakened”. The Psalmist said the people who lived and planted in the land Jehovah God prepared for them were humbled and weakened before Him another time.
The verse goes on to say, “... through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “through oppression” or “by way of restraint, coercion and barrenness”, “affliction” which means “bad, evil, disagreeableness and malignancy”, “and sorrow” or “and grief and anguish”. The Psalmist said the people who lived and planted in the land provided by Jehovah God began to suffer restraint, barrenness, evil and anguish.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist said the people who were flourishing in the land provided by Jehovah God returned to being diminished, humbled, barrenness, malignancy and grief. This is not the way Jehovah God wants it to be. He desires a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus that is continually blessed for all our lives. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the difficult ways of living that cause barrenness, anguish and grief.
Next time the Psalmist says Jehovah God, “pours contempt upon princes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
