Showing Favor and Lending - Psalms 112:5

In Psalms one hundred twelve the Psalmist said, “Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous”, and in chapter one hundred twelve and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “a good man shows favor, and lends” where we read,

A good man shows favor, and lends: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

The verse begins, A good man shows favor, and lends:” The Psalmist began with the words, “a good man” or “a pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable person whether male or female” “shows favor” which means “demonstrates grace, pity, mercy and kindness”, “and lends” or “and joins, attends and causes to borrow”. The Psalmist said the persons who is pleasant and agreeable demonstrates grace, pity and mercy and attends to others by conducting their business fairly.

The verse goes on to say, “he will guide his affairs with discretion.” The Psalmist continues with the words, “he will guide his affairs” or “he, the person who is good, shall seize, measure, sustain, support and nourish his speech, speaking, utterance and acts” “with discretion” which means “by the use of judgment, ordinance, procedure and litigation”. The Psalmist said the “upright” person will sustain and support his speaking and acts by the use of ordinance, procedure and litigation.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how the person who is “good” demonstrates grace and pity toward others, and they conduct their speech and acts with judgment, ordinance and procedure that aligns with God and His ways. God wants to be involved in our lives, and for this to be, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to live in an “upright” manner that demonstrates His character traits to others.

Next time the Psalmist says, “surely he shall not be moved for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
