In Psalms one hundred fourteen the Psalmist asked, “What ailed you, O you sea, that you fled? you Jordan, that you were driven back?”, and in chapter one hundred fourteen and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist asked, “you mountains, that you skipped like rams” where we read,
You mountains, that you skipped like rams; and you little hills, like lambs?
The verse begins, “You mountains, that you skipped like rams;” The Psalmist began with the words, “you mountains” which means “you risings above the plains, hills and ranges of mountainous places”, “that you skipped like rams” or “so you, mountains, danced, leaped and sprung about similar to and in likeness to ram animals and strong supports, posts or chief pilasters”. The Psalmist questioned the cause for the “mountains” to dance and leap like supportive ram animals.
The verse continues, “and you little hills, like lambs?” The Psalmist added the words, “and you little hills” or “and you tiny and small risings above the plain”, “like lambs” or “similar and in likeness to small cattle known as sheep”? The Psalmist asked the reason for the small risings to be similar to small cattle known as “sheep”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover that the Psalmist shared how the “mountains and little hills” were affected by Jehovah God when He made “Israel and Judah” His “dominion and sanctuary”. God oversees and is able to affect every area upon the earth because He created it. He loves the people within the world and desires to live with us forever. He knows sin separates us from a personal relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we can be forgiven and live eternally with Him. God loves us, and when we surrender to Jesus as our “Lord and Savior”, we will find Him to be greater than anywhere on the earth including the “mountains and little hills”.
Next time the Psalmist says, “Tremble, you earth, at the presence of the Lord”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
