In Psalms one hundred nine David said, “Let the extortioner catch all that he has; and let the strangers spoil his labor. Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse thirteen of Psalms David said, “let his posterity be cut off” where we read,
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
The verse begins, “Let his posterity be cut off;” David began with the words, “let his posterity” or “allow and permit his, the adversary of David's, remnant, future children and offspring” “be cut off” which means “exist as hewn down, destroyed and permitted to perish”. David beckoned Jehovah God to allow his enemy's future children to be destroyed and permitted to perish.
The verse goes on to say, “and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.” David continued with the words, “and in the generation following” or “and within the period, age and revolution of time afterward” “let their name” which means “allow and permit their, the enemies of David, reputation, fame, glory and memory to” “be blotted out” or “exist as wiped away, exterminated and abolished”. David was so purposed against the future offspring of his enemy that he wanted their reputation and memory to be wiped away.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how thoroughly David desired his enemy to be opposed. He wanted their future offspring to perish and their reputation and memory to be exterminated and abolished. David did not want even the memory of his enemy to be anywhere around him. God knew David felt this way, and He was certain to deal with the enemies of David. He does however have an open invitation to every person to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put us in a position to watch Him contend with those who oppose Him and His people.
Next time David says, “let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
