The Mouth of the Wicked and Deceitful - Psalms 109:2

In Psalms one hundred nine David said, “Hold not your peace, O God of my praise;”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse two of Psalms David said, “the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me” where we read,

For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me:

they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

The verse begins, For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: David began with the words, “for the mouth” or “because, since and on account that the opening in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of crime, ungodly and hostile to God” “and the mouth” or “and the opening in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the deceitful” which means “belonging to the ones who are fraudulent, crafty, treacherous and commit subtlety and falsehood” “are open against me” or “exist as loose, engraved, carved and drawn in opposition to me, David”. David said people who are ungodly, evil and fraudulent open their “mouths” in opposition to him.

The verse continues, “they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.” David added the words, “they have spoken” or “they, the people with wicked and deceitful mouths speaking against David, have uttered, declared and proclaimed” “against me” which means “in opposition to me, David” “with a lying tongue” or “by the use of deception, disappointment, falsehood, fraud and wrong”. David said the wicked and ungodly people who use their “mouths” in opposition to him do so with deception, falsehood and wrong.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David addressed this situation with the ungodly people who came against him. He made his appeal to Jehovah God, and he described not only the ungodly nature of his opposition, but also the means of “lying” for which they drew upon to speak against him. God knows when we have enemies with “lying tongues”, and He relates to us because His Son Jesus encountered the same ill treatment. God sent Jesus into the world to not only suffer from people speaking evil against Him, but also to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with those who employ their “mouths and tongues” to speak falsehood and lies against us.

Next time David says, “they compassed me about also with words of hatred”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
