In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “turns rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground. A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. He turns the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation. And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse thirty-eight of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly” where we read,
He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffers not their cattle to decrease.
The verse begins, “He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly;” The Psalmist began with the words, “He blesses them also” or “He, Jehovah God, salutes, adores and greatly praises the people who live and plant in the land prepared, even so and indeed”, “so they are multiplied greatly” which means “with the result being that they, the people who live and plant in the land prepared, exist as abundantly and numerously increased in number and many”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God greatly favored the people who lived and planted in the land prepared by Him, and they were abundantly increased in number there.
The verse continues, “and suffers not their cattle to decrease.” The Psalmist added the words, “and suffers not their cattle” or “and does not allow their, the people who lived and planted in the land's, beasts, livestock and wild animals” “to decrease” which means “to become small, diminish and shrink in number”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God does not allow the livestock of the people to diminish in number.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist referred to Jehovah God favoring the people who returned to the land He prepared for them. God “blessed” their number or increased the number of people among them, and He did not allow their domestic animals to shrink in number. God loves the people of Israel, and He blesses them indeed. He chose Israel to be the nation through whom all the nations of the world would be blessed. (See Genesis 18:18; 22:18) He sent His Son Jesus by way of the people of Israel to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us increase according to His perfect will and purpose.
Next time the Psalmist says, “they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
