Light in the Darkness - Psalms 112:4

In Psalms one hundred twelve the Psalmist said, “the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred twelve and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness” where we read,

Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness:

he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

The verse begins, Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness:” The Psalmist began with the words, “unto the upright” or “to the strait, correct and righteous” “there arises light” which means “there comes forth, appears and breaks out illumination, prosperity, instruction and brightness” “in the darkness” or “within the obscurity, secret place, misery, ignorance, sorrow and wickedness”. The Psalmist said illumination and prosperity comes forth within obscurity for people who live in a righteous and correct manner.

The verse continues,he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.” The Psalmist added the words, “he is gracious” or “he, the person who is upright, exists as tenderhearted and merciful”, “and full of compassion” which means “and filled and complete with love and pity”, “and righteous” or “and just, lawful and correct”. The Psalmist said the “upright” person is tenderhearted, merciful and filled with love and pity.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how the people who are strait and righteous receive illumination and instruction in obscurity and ignorance, and they are tenderhearted and filled with love and pity as well. God gives these traits to people who yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us “upright, gracious, compassionate and righteous” hearts as we are illuminated by Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “a good man shows favor, and lends”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
