Praise the LORD - Psalms 111:1

In Psalms one hundred eleven the Psalmist said, “Praise you the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart”, and in chapter one hundred eleven and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said completely the following words where we read,

Praise you the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart,

in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

The verse begins, Praise you the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “Praise you the LORD” or “commend, adore, worship and glory in Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. “I will praise” which means “I, the Psalmist shall commend, adore, worship and glory in” “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “with my whole heart” which means “by the use and means of my, the Psalmist's, total and complete soul, mind, will, desires, living being and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to adore and worship Jehovah God, and He purposed that he would worship and give glory to Him with his entire being.

The verse goes on to say, “... in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.” The Psalmist continued the words, “in the assembly” or “within the gathering and collection” “of the upright” which means “pertaining to the straight, correct, pleasing, straightforward, fitting and proper”, “and in the congregation” or “and within the gathering, company and multitude”. The Psalmist purposed to give “praise” to Jehovah God in the gathering of people who are correct and pleasing within the company and multitude.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist wanted people to adore and worship Jehovah God, and He declared he would worship God with his entire soul, mind and will in the presence of a gathering and multitude of straight, correct and proper people. The Psalmist knew the value of God in His life, and anyone who considers that God demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners His Son Jesus died on the cross for our sins should value Him as well. (See Romans 5:8) When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be among the multitude of people who give honor, glory, praise and adoration to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the works of the LORD are great”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
