In Psalms one hundred nine David said, “I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse twenty-three of Psalms David said, “I am gone like the shadow when it declines” where we read,
I am gone like the shadow when it declines: I am tossed up and down as the locust.
The verse begins, “I am gone like the shadow when it declines:” David began with the words, “I am gone” or “I, David, exist as departed, moved and lead away” “like the shadow” which means “similar and in likeness to the shade or construct” “when it declines” or “at the time and moment it, the shadow, stretches out, extends and spreads out”. David said he was departed like the fading “shadow” in the sky as it stretches out over the earth.
The verse continues, “I am tossed up and down as the locust.” David added the words, “I am tossed up and down” or “I, David, exist as shaken, tumbled and rustled in an upward and downward direction” “as the locust” which means “even so and indeed like the locust or grasshopper swarm”. David said he was shaken in an upward and downward direction similar to a swarm of locusts or grasshoppers when they fly together.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David considered himself to be “declining” even as the descending “shadow” over the earth, and he was shaken and tumbling like a swarm of locusts that fly together in the sky. In other words, David felt humbled and disoriented and was in need of God. God loved David, and He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us regardless of whether we feel like we're declining like the “shadow” or wavering like the “locusts” in the sky.
Next time David says, “My knees are weak through fasting”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
