In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil”, and in chapter five and verse four of Proverbs Solomon told his son, “her end is bitter as wormwood” where we read,
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
The verse begins, “But her end is bitter as wormwood, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “but her end” or “ however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover her, the strange woman's, after part, latter time, last and hinder-most reward” “is bitter as wormwood” which means “exists as bitterness, pain and discontent like unto a poisonous wood such as hemlock”. Solomon shared how the strange woman's latter time reward is like unto pain that exists within poisonous hemlock.
The verse continues, “... sharp as a two-edged sword.” Solomon added the word, “sharp” or “acute and crisp” “as a two-edged sword” which means “like unto a knife, axe, dagger or mattock that has both edges sharpened”. Solomon said the strange woman's final reward exists like the effects of a “two-edged sword” that is used for battle and the destruction of an enemy.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he told his son about the consequences for entertaining the temptations from the “strange woman”. Although things may seem pleasurable for a time, the final result would be “bitter” and destroy him like a dagger that has been sharpened on both sides of the blade. God does not want destruction for us, and especially when we consider eternal destruction, God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for rescue us from eternal separation from Him. When we yield to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from the severe devastation that occurs because people give in to the temptress's words.
Next time Solomon tells his son, “her feet go down to death”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
