In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fouler”, and in chapter six and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “go to the ant, you sluggard” where we read,
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
The verse begins, “Go to the ant, you sluggard;”. Solomon began with the words, “go to the ant” or “walk, depart, proceed and move toward the insect known as an ant” “you sluggard” which means “you lazy, indolent and slothful person”. Solomon instructed the slothful person to proceed toward the “ant”.
The verse goes on to say, “consider her ways, and be wise:” Solomon continued with the words, “consider her ways” or “see, look at, inspect and perceive her, the ant's, road, distance, journey and manner”, “and be wise” which means “and exist as restrained from acting in an evil manner, and judge and govern in skill and wisdom”. Solomon instructed the slothful person to look at and perceive the manner of the ant and exist with wisdom.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted people who have a tendency to be lazy to observe the actions and activities of the insect known as an ant. The ant works, stays busy, is industrious and continually goes about with purpose. God wants the same for us. He desires that we fulfill His purposes and plans for our lives, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to observe his “ant” for inspiration of how to conduct ourselves in the world.
Next time Solomon says the ant has, “no guide, overseer, or ruler”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
