In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “at the window of my house I looked through my casement, and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night, and, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart”, and in chapter seven and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “she is loud and stubborn” where we read,
(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
The verse begins, “(She is loud and stubborn; ...”. Solomon began with the words, “she is loud” or “she, the woman with the attire of an harlot, is noisy, disquieted, clamorous, raging and tumultuous”, “and stubborn” which means “and backsliding, refractory and rebellious”. Solomon shared how the woman dressed as a harlot is noisy, clamorous, backsliding and rebellious.
The verse goes on to say, “her feet abide not in her house:” Solomon continued with the words, “her feet” or “her, the harlot's, physical feet” “abide not in her house” which means “do not settle down, dwell, tabernacle or reside within her, the harlot's, dwelling place, shelter, abode or house”. Solomon said the “feet” of the harlot did not remain within her own home.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn the characteristics of the harlot who met the young man in the streets. She was clamorous and rebellious, and she did not stay within her own house. This young man was on the way to being her prey. God is aware of temptations that come to us, and He knows when we submit to them. This is called sin, error and wrong, and for this reason He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the sultry woman who is “loud, stubborn and wanders away from her home”.
Next time Solomon says the woman was, “without, now in the streets”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
