Iniquities Taking the Wicked Himself - Proverbs 5:22

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his goings”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “his own iniquities shall take the wicked himself” where we read,

His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.

The verse begins, “His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, .... Solomon began with the words, “his own iniquities” or “the person's own personal perversity, depravities, mischief and moral evil” “shall take the wicked himself” which means “will capture, seize and take hold of the criminal, guilty of crime and one who is hostile to God his own self”. Solomon shared how the person whose commits evil and is hostile to God will seize and capture people who are criminal and evil their own selves.

The verse continues, “... and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.” Solomon added the words, “and he shall be held” or “and he, the wicked person, will be grasped, attained and seized” “with the cords” which means “by the use of ropes, bands, sorrows, travails and pains” “of his sins” or “belonging to his, the wicked person's, errors, wrongs, missing of the mark and offenses”. Solomon said the person who commits “iniquity” and is captured by the “wicked” will be seized with the bands and sorrows belonging to their own personal errors and wrongs.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew people who commit sin would be seized by their wrongs, and they would be captured by the sorrows and pains sins bring. Sin is accompanied by adverse consequences, and the eventual payment for is death. Jesus Christ was sent into the world by His Father God to die on the cross to pay the price for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from committing “iniquities” so we are not seized with the punishments they bring.

Next time Solomon says, “he shall die without instruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
