In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well. Let your fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. Let them be only your own, and not strangers' with you”, and in chapter five and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “let your fountain be blessed” where we read,
Let your fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of your youth.
The verse begins, “Let your fountain be blessed:”. Solomon began with the words, “let your fountain” or “allow and permit your, the son of Solomon's, spring, source of life, joy and purification” “be blessed” which means “exist as O how happy, praised and saluted”. Solomon instructed his son to allow his source of life and joy to exist as saluted and praised.
The verse continues “and rejoice with the wife of your youth.” Solomon added the words, “and rejoice” or “and be glad, exulted, joyful and merry” “with the wife” which means “alongside the female spouse” “of your youth” or “belonging to your, the son of Solomon's, early life or childhood”. Solomon told his son to be glad and merry with his “wife” whom he obtained while he was young.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon directed his son to allow his “running waters” to be praised, and he was to enjoy with gladness his “wife” whom he chose when he was young. God's design is for us to enjoy His provision for us relationally, and when we understand that this is symbolic for our relationship with Him, we are to allow our fellowship with Him to be exulted and our spouses to be enjoyed for all our lives. God loves us, and He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the will to enjoy our “blessed fountains” and the spouse of our youth.
Next time Solomon says to his son, “let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
