Attend to My Words - Proverbs 4:20

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble”, and in chapter four and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, my son, attend to my wordswhere we read,

My son, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings.

The verse begins, “My son, attend to my words;. Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's, male offspring and progeny”, “attend to my words” which means “hear, pay attention and listen to my, Solomon's, utterances, declarations and proclamations”. Solomon told his son to pay attention to his utterances and declarations.

The verse continues, “incline your ear unto my sayings.” Solomon added the words, “incline your ear” or “stretch out, extend, bend and bow your, Solomon's, physical ear and mental and spiritual faculties” “unto my sayings” which means “toward my, Solomon's, utterances, declarations and proclamations”. Solomon instructed his son to stretch out his hearing toward the words he spoke to him.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover Solomon's care for his son as he wanted him to listen to what he had to say. Solomon was given wisdom by Jehovah God, and no one knows more than Him. God wants us to know Him and His Son Jesus, (See John 17:3) and He sent Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of being attentive to His words and all He has to proclaim.

Next time Solomon says, let them not depart from your eyes, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
