Bound Around Your Neck - Proverbs 6:21

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not the law of your mother”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “bind them continually upon your heart” where we read,

Bind them continually upon your heart, and tie them about your neck.

The verse begins, Bind them continually upon your heart, .... Solomon began with the words, “bind them continually” or “tie, confine and join them, the commandments of his father and the law of his mother, perpetually, constantly and always” “upon your heart” which means “on your, the son of Solomon's, soul, mind, will, desires, conscience and seat of passions and affections”. Solomon told his son to constantly tie the commandments of his father and the law of his mother within his soul, mind and will.

The verse continues, “... and tie them about your neck.” Solomon added the words, “and tie them” or “and lace fast and bind them, the commandments of his father and the law of his mother” “about your neck” which means “around your, the son of Solomon's, physical throat or neck”. Solomon instructed his son to lace and bind the commandments of his father and the law of his mother around his physical throat and neck.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to have his “commandments” and his mother's “law” close to him at all times. Solomon knew what was best for his son, and his son would be protected, find provision and enjoy safety as he obey his and his mother's rules. Solomon loved his son, so he and Solomon's mother set boundaries in his life. God loves us, and He gave His law to us so we would experience the best life according to His provision and plan. However, we have violated His laws, so He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of continually keeping His law within our souls and as close and though it was tied around our necks.

Next time Solomon says, “when you go, it shall lead you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more …
