In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding”, and in chapter four and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said of wisdom, “exalt her, and she shall promote you” where we read,
Exalt her, and she shall promote you: she shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her.
The verse begins, “Exalt her, and she shall promote you:”. Solomon began with the words, “exalt her” or “cast, lift and raise her, wisdom and understanding, up”, “and she shall promote you” which means “and she, wisdom and understanding, will raise up, extol and magnify you, Solomon's children”. Solomon instructed his children to lift up wisdom and understanding and they will raise up and magnify them.
The verse continues, “she shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her .” Solomon added the words, “she shall bring you to honor” or “she, wisdom and understanding, will lift up, magnify and glorify you, Solomon's children”, “when you do embrace her” which means “at the time and moment you, Solomon's children, clasp with the hands her, wisdom and understanding”. Solomon said at the time and moment his children clasp wisdom and understanding, they will magnify and glorify them.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he wanted his children to incorporate wisdom and understanding in their lives, and as they did, they would be advanced and magnified. Wisdom and understanding will magnify us as we hold them close, and God is the true source of all wise and intellectual things. God loves us, and because He wants the best for us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and add wisdom, understanding, promotion and honor to us before Him and others.
Next time Solomon says wisdom and understanding, “shall give unto your head an ornament of grace”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
