In the book of Proverbs Solomon told his son, “Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from you a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from you”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon said, “ let your eyes look right on” where we read,
Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you.
The verse begins, “Let your eyes look right on, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “let your eyes” or “allow and permit your, the son of Solomon's physical eyes to” “look right on” which means “to show regard, pay attention to and consider what is in front of, before or forward”. Solomon told his son to keep his physical eyes looking forward and before him.
The verse continues, “... and let your eyelids look straight before you.” Solomon added the words, “and let your eyelids” or “and allow and permit your, the son of Solomon's, coverings for the eyes, morning rays or dawning” “look straight before you” which means “be pleasing, agreeable, straightforward and right in front of you, Solomon's son”. Solomon instructed his son to allow the covering for his eyes to be made right, direct and approved before him.
When we meditate upon words in this verse, we learn how Solomon directed his son to keep his “eyes and eyelids” to be gazing forward rather than backward or to the sides. God wants us to keep Him and His way in front of us, and we are not to vary or deviate from His path. God loves us, and He proved His love for us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He forgives our sin, grants us everlasting life and give us aid in keeping our gaze forward and according to His perfect path and ways.
Next time Solomon says, “ponder the path of your feet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
