The Commandment is a Lamp - Proverbs 6:23

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart, and tie them about your neck. When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall keep you; and when you awake, it shall talk with you”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “the commandment is a lamp” where we read,

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

The verse begins, For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;. Solomon began with the words, “for the commandment” or “because, since and on account that the ordinance, precept and code of law” “is a lamp” which means “exists as a candle or burning light”; “and the law” or “and the direction, instruction, custom and manner” “is light” which means “exists as illumination for prosperity and instruction”. Solomon shared how his and Solomon's mother's ordinances and precepts existed as a burning light and prosperous instruction.

The verse continues, “and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:” Solomon added the words, “and reproofs of instruction” or “and correction, punishment, chastisement and chiding pertaining to discipline, doctrine and warning” “are the way of life” which means “exist as the road, journey, manner, path and direction pertaining to flowing and fresh living, sustenance and maintenance”. Solomon said correction in discipline and doctrine exists as the direction and path for living.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about the illuminating benefit of having the “commandment, and law and reproofs of instruction” within a person's life. These doctrines give guidance and direction for the best way to live, and when we consider that Jehovah God inspired Solomon's words, we understand His instruction and doctrine are best for us. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us according to His commandments, law and instruction for our lives.

Next time Solomon says these things to his son, “to keep you from the evil woman”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
