In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear me now therefore, O you children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove your way far from her, and come not near the door of her house. Lest you give your honor unto others, and your years unto the cruel. Lest strangers be filled with your wealth; and your labors be in the house of a stranger. And you mourn at the last, when your flesh and your body are consumed, and say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof”, and in chapter five and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers” where we read,
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
The verse begins, “And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “and have not obeyed” or “and in no way have listened to, perceived, understood, consented with, agreed and yielded to” “the voice” which means “the sound and noise of utter words” “of my teachers” or “belonging to my, the children of Solomon's, ones who inform, directors and instructors”. Solomon shared how his children would also recall how they disobeyed the uttered words of their instructors and directors.
The verse goes on to say, “... nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me!” Solomon continued with the words, “nor inclined my ear” or “no and not in any way stretched out, extended or bent and bowed down my, the children of Solomon's, physical ear or mental and spiritual faculties” “to them that instructed me” which means “toward them, the teachers, who taught, directed and trained me, the children of Solomon”! Solomon said his children would also remember how they did not bend their physical, mental or spiritual faculties toward the people who taught and directed them.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon's children would regret their disobedience to their instructors, and they would realize they did not bend their physical and mental perception to what their directors told them. Ignoring God and disobeying His commands hurts the people who disregard them, and God doesn't want us to face those consequences. God is in the salvation business, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us instruction and guidance through His scriptures, the Bible, His Holy Spirit and His direction in every part of our lives.
Next time Solomon says, “I was almost in all evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
