In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry. But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house”, and in chapter six and verse thirty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding” where we read,
But whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding:
he that does it destroys his own soul.
The verse begins, “But whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding:”. Solomon began with the words, “But whosoever commits adultery with a woman” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover whatever person breaks wedlock and perpetuates a sexual relationship with a married female human being” “lacks understanding” which means “is in need, want and void of mind, knowledge, thinking, reflection and memory”. Solomon said a person who perpetuates a sexual relationship with a married woman or with another woman while being married is void in their thinking and in need of knowledge and reflection.
The verse goes on to say, “he that does it destroys his own soul.” Solomon continued with the words, “he that does it” or “he, the person who fashions, makes, produces and commits adultery” “destroys his own soul” which means “corrupts, ruins, decays and rots his, the person who commits adultery's, own personal heart, mind, will, desires, conscience, living being and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon said the person who “commits adultery” corrupts and ruins his own personal heart, mind and will.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon shared with his son how the person who perpetuates a sexual relationship with another woman while being married or with a married woman is void of thinking and knowledge. They ruin their own “souls” when they perform this sin. God's Son Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind regardless of what they are, and Jesus gave us an example of His forgiveness of sin when He did not condemn the woman caught in adultery. (See John 8:2-11) God is willing to forgive us when we believe and trust in Jesus, and He will grant us everlasting life and the power to resist further temptations to “commit adultery” or any other sin into which we may fall.
Next time Solomon says, “a wound and dishonor shall he get”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
