In the book of Proverbs Solomon told his son, “Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “ put away from you a froward mouth” where we read,
Put away from you a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from you.
The verse begins, “Put away from you a froward mouth, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “put away from you” or “turn aside, depart, remove and depose apart from you, Solomon's son” “a froward mouth” which means “a distorted and crooked orifice in the face used for drinking, eating and speaking”. Solomon told his son to depart and separate himself from a crooked and fraudulent way of speaking.
The verse goes on to say, “... and perverse lips put far from you.” Solomon continued with the words, “and perverse lips” or “and devious and crooked physical lips used for speaking” “put far from you” which means “turn, make and remove a great distance apart from you, Solomon's son”. Solomon instructed his son to remove devious and crooked speaking a great distance apart from him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to pay close attention to the words which he spoke. Lying, crookedness and evil speaking should never be a part of our lives, and because He loves us, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for every sin we have every committed even the ones we have spoken with our mouths and lips. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to keep from speaking “froward and perverse” things.
Next time Solomon says, “let your eyes look right on”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
