In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “These six things does the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination unto him”, and in chapter six and verse seventeen of Proverbs Solomon shares about, “a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood” where we read,
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
The verse begins, “A proud look, a lying tongue, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “a proud look” or “a high, lofty, exalted and haughty eye or mental and spiritual faculty”, “a lying tongue” which means “a deceptive, fraudulent, wrong and feigned wedge in the mouth used for speaking”. Solomon shared how Jehovah God “hates” a high and lofty eye and a fraudulent and deceptive “tongue”.
The verse continues, “... and hands that shed innocent blood, ...” Solomon added the words, “and hands” or “and physical hands of power, might, strength and ability” “that shed innocent blood” which means “that pour out, spill, sprawl and gush out clean, free, clear and free from guilt bloodshed”. Solomon said Jehovah God also “hates” the physical “hands” that spill and pour out clean and guilt free “blood”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon identified three of the seven things that Jehovah God “hates” and considers an enemy. A haughty eye or mental faculty, false and fraudulent speaking and physical “hands” that spill “blood” that is clear from guilt. This is more than ample reason to never have these traits in our life. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for these sins and others that people commit. Whoever believes and trusts in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and kept by the power of the Holy Spirit from “proud looks, lying tongues and hands that kill the innocent”.
Next time Solomon shares about, “An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
