In the book of Proverbs Solomon said of wisdom, “She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to you”, and in chapter four and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings” where we read,
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many.
The verse begins, “Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings;”. Solomon began with the words, “hear, O my son” or “listen to, perceive, understand and pay attention O my, Solomon's, male offspring and progeny”, “and receive my sayings” which means “and get, fetch, lay hold of and seize my, Solomon's, utterances, declarations and proclamations”. Solomon instructed his “son” to listen to and lay hold of his utterances and proclamations.
The verse continues, “and the years of your life shall be many.” Solomon added the words, “and the years” or “and the division, measure and indication of time” “of your life” which means “pertaining to your, Solomon's son's, active, flowing and fresh living” “shall be many” or “will exist as great, numerous, enlarged and increased”. Solomon said his son's time for active living would exist as numerous as he “received” his instructions.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to listen to his utterances and declarations because he would gain a life of numerous “years” as he did. God wants the best for us, and because He loves us so dearly, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to prove it. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His wisdom and understanding so the days of our lives will be abundant before Him.
Next time Solomon says to his son, “I have taught you in the way of wisdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
