In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon said, “lust not after her beauty in your heart” where we read,
Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids.
The verse begins, “Lust not after her beauty in your heart;”. Solomon began with the words, “lust not” or “do not desire, covet, take pleasure or delight” “after her beauty” which means “because and on account of her, the evil woman's, ravishing appearance” “in your heart” or “within your, the son of Solomon's, soul, mind, will, desires, conscience, living being and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon instructed his son not to desire or take pleasure in the beautiful appearance of the evil woman within his soul and mind.
The verse continues, “neither let her take you with her eyelids.” Solomon added the words, “neither let her take you” or “no and not in any way to allow or permit her, the evil woman, to seize, acquire or snatch away you, Solomon's son” “with her eyelids” which means “by the use of her, the evil woman's, covers for the eyes”. Solomon told his son not to allow the evil woman to seize or seduce him with the covers of her eyes.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how Solomon wanted his son to keep away from the “evil woman”. He knew the woman would attempt to seduce him with her appearance, and she would bat her eyes to cause him to surrender to her wishes. Solomon knew destruction was at the end of her path, and he wanted his son to be preserved from suffering the consequences from yielding to her. God knows there are difficult and destructive ends when we yield to attractive sins, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we could be saved from them. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and preserve and protect us from those who would seduce us to do wrong and violate His law.
Next time Solomon says, “by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
