In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman, Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-six of Proverbs Solomon said, “by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread” where we read,
For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread:
and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
The verse begins, “For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread:”. Solomon began with the words, “for by means of” or “because, since and on account that through and on behalf of” “a whorish woman” which means “a female human being who commits fornication, plays the harlot and is a prostitute” “a man is brought” or “a male human being is carried or lead” “to a piece of bread” which means “to a morsel of food or grain”. Solomon shared how a harlot would lead his son to an impoverished state of only having a morsel of grain.
The verse goes on to say, “and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the adulteress” or “and the woman who is married to a man” “will hunt for the precious life” which means “shall eagerly or keenly take or catch away the valued, weighty, rare and splendid soul, appetite, mind, will, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon said a woman who commits adultery would eagerly snatch away the soul, mind and will of his son.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how yielding to the woman who is a prostitute would destroy his son's living. Not only would he be impoverished in wealth, but his very “soul” would be damaged by her pernicious ways. God wants to liberate us from temptations and desires that result in our demise, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins to prove He has a better way. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the power through His Holy Spirit to resist temptations and discover His Divine plan for us.
Next time Solomon asks, “can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
