Giving Your Honor to Others - Proverbs 5:9

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear me now therefore, O you children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove your way far from her, and come not near the door of her house”, and in chapter five and verse nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “lest you give your honor to others where we read,

Lest you give your honor unto others, and your years unto the cruel:

The verse begins, “Lest you give your honor unto others, .... Solomon began with the words, “lest you give” or “unless or except that you, the children of Solomon, grant, bestow, deliver, ascribe, dedicate and entrust” “your honor unto others” which means “your, the children of Solomon', splendor, majesty, vigor, comeliness and beauty toward other people both male and female”. Solomon shared how the splendor and majesty of his children would be delivered to other people if his children did not separate themselves from the strange woman.

The verse goes on to say, “... and your years unto the cruel:” Solomon continued with the words, “and your years” or “and your, the children of Solomon's, division, measure and indication of age” “unto the cruel” which means “toward people who are terrible, barbarous and savage”. Solomon said the time that his children were to live would be given to people who are barbarous and mean.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how his children's lives would be affected by their engagement with the “strange woman”. Their splendor and glory would be provided to other people, and they would forfeit their time on earth to people who are barbarous. Reputation and integrity would be lost, and the remainder of their lives would be lived in difficulty. God's desire is to keep us from this fate, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could live forever with Him. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from giving our “honor” and time to others.

Next time Solomon says, “Lest strangers be filled with your wealth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
