Jealousy is the Rage of a Man - Proverbs 6:34

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said “whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul. A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away”, and in chapter six and verse thirty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “jealousy is the rage of a man” where we read,

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

The verse begins, For jealousy is the rage of a man:. Solomon began with the words, for jealousyor “because, since and on account that envy, zeal and ardor” is the rage of a man which means “exists as the heat, displeasure, indignation, anger, wrath and poison belonging to a male human being”. Solomon shared how ardor and envy become the wrath and anger of the woman's husband whose wife “commits adultery”.

The verse goes on to say, “therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance .” Solomon continued with the words, “ therefore he will not spare” or “then, wherefore and on this account he, the woman's husband, shall in no way or manner pity or have compassion” “in the day of vengeance” which means “within the time period or division of time pertaining to retribution, pay back, revenge and retaliation”. Solomon said the husband of the wife who “commits adultery” will in no way have compassion or pity when his day of revenge and retaliation arrives.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew the envy and zeal of the husband of the wife who “commits adultery” would cause him to become so angry he would not have any compassion or pity when his day of retribution comes. God knew this would be the reaction of people whose spouses “commit adultery”, and He wanted to keep them from this horrific pain. He knew people sin, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the retribution and revenge sought by those who have been greatly violated in their marriages.

Next time Solomon says, “he will not regard any ransom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
