In the book of Proverbs Solomon said “My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with you. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them upon your fingers, write them upon the table of your heart”, and in chapter seven and verse four of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “say unto wisdom, you are my sister” where we read,
Say unto wisdom, you are my sister; and call understanding your kinswoman:
The verse begins, “Say unto wisdom, you are my sister;”. Solomon began with the words, “say unto wisdom” or “utter, declare and proclaim to skill, shrewdness and prudence”, “you are my sister” which means “you, wisdom, exist as my, Solomon's son's, female sibling”. Solomon told his son to tell “skill and shrewdness” that she exists as his “female sibling”.
The verse continues, “and call understanding your kinswoman:” Solomon added the words, “and call understanding” or “loudly utter, cry out and proclaim that discernment, meaning and knowledge exists as” “your kinswoman” which means “your, the son of Solomon's, relative”. Solomon instructed his son to proclaim that discernment and knowledge were his relatives.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to keep “skill and understanding” so close to him that they would be like a female sibling and a relative. Solomon knew having “wisdom” in his son's life would provide a good life for him, and when he kept knowledge close by, his life would be protected. Solomon loved his son, and God loves us. His “wisdom” and “understanding” are very important, and they should be kept very close to us. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person who will surrender to His Son Jesus who was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “wisdom and understanding” for us to keep as close as relatives.
Next time Solomon says to his son, “that they may keep you from the strange woman”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
