In the book of Proverbs Solomon asked, “How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep”, and in chapter six and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “so shall your poverty come on one that travails” where we read,
So shall your poverty come as one that travails, and your want as an armed man.
The verse begins, “So shall your poverty come as one that travails, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “so shall your poverty” or “even so and indeed will your, the sluggard's, impoverishment and poorness” “come as one that travails” which means “enter, be enumerated and pounce similar and in likeness to a person who is a traversing thief, vagabond or bandit ”. Solomon shared how the person who is a sluggard, slumbers and folds their hands to sleep will be enumerated with thieves and bandits.
The verse continues, “... and your want as an armed man.” Solomon added the words, “and your want” or “and your, the sluggard's, lack, need and penury” “as an armed man” which means “similar and in likeness to robber who is equipped with a weapon”. Solomon said the sluggard would lack and be in need similar to a thief who is equipped with a weapon.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the end result for sluggards and lazy people would be to exist like a vagabond, and their lack and need would exist like a thief who is equipped with a weapon. God does not want anyone to live in this manner, and when we realize He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, we can believe and trust in Him and be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and never be lazy so as to have “poverty and want” come upon us.
Next time Solomon shares about, “a naughty person” and “a wicked man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
